Health Care
Every day in Africa, people continue to die of curable sicknesses. In 2009 we saw a dear woman, Joseph’s sister, die of appendicitis because she could not get to medical care quick enough. This is a very real issue. Imagine having 74 children of your own. Think of the health situations that would come up. We have 4 children and have been to the doctor at least 10 times in 2009 for different issues.

Medical Clinic
A small 200 square foot clinic services the needs of the orphanage and school children. It is staffed by Vincent who has very little medical training. Supplies are limited to basic first aid, cough medicines, simple antibiotics, etc..

Medical Checkups and Immunizations
February 2009, giving typhoid shots to all the children and staff, as well as physical health screenings, eye screenings and hearing tests.

Heath Education
February 2009 ...

One of the most important things we have been able to do for the community is teaching. We have seen the Maasai take many steps forward as a result of the teaching. Our teaching has spanned the gamut from basic hygiene, food preparation, hand washing, and germ prevention to the topic of sex education. During the June 2009 trip to Kenya, two young High School girls from the Chicago area and thier cousin from France had the opportunity to address this topic with all the older children.

Medical Van
August 2009 Abbott Labs purchased a van which has been a huge blessing in getting people in the community access to medical care.
