The Hill
The Hill
We affectionately refer to the location where TMD is located as "the Hill" for reasons that are obvious when you visit. While most references to Africa imply dry and dusty places, the Hill is lush with vegetation and is at an elevation of 7,000 ft above sea level. The landscape is rolling with what looks like hills until you have to climb them - then they feel like mountains. Logistically, the TMD program is located in the Southwestern area of Kenya in the Trans Mara District. It is situated on a mountain overlooking Nyanza to the North, Bomet to the East, Migori regions to the West and the famous Maasai Mara National park, which borders Kenya and Tanzania, to the South.
The TMD organization is a registered NGO (non-governmental organization) with the government of Kenya and has deeds to approximately 40 acres of land. School buildings dot the TMD campus, with the Orphanage positioned on the highest spot, overlooking not just the TMD property, but large sections of the Trans Mara as well.
