Orphanage Life

Orphanage Life

StephenFor most of us in the United States, it's hard to imagine that life in an orphanage could be wonderful experience. These orphaned children came from such desperate circumstances of loss, poverty, and even abuse that the joy of being in their new home is immediately noticeable. For 5 year old Stephan, regular nutritious food and moderate meaningful chores like helping to wash clothes and clean up meals is a welcome change from his previous life. Before moving into the children's home, he was made to walk miles with a donkey to fetch water and tend cattle all day. His caregivers beat him and rarely fed him. It was such a joy to see him happily devour 2 plates of rice, meat and greens on his first day in the Children's Home! He is now safe and warm in his bed, well fed, attends school, and has fun being a kid on the new playground equipment at the orphanage.

Stephan’s story is similar to that of many of the children.  We have been privileged to be there several times when new children have come into the home.  The difference in them is truly noticeable after even just one day of living in the children’s home.  They know that they are loved and that they will be cared for.  They know that they have hope for a brighter future!
